Bistek Recipe

Bistek is a beef dish that is cooked with soy sauce, calamansi or lemon juice & lots of sliced onions.  It’s one of my go to dishes if I don’t want to spend too much time chopping or cooking in the kitchen.  It is best eaten with steamed rice or in my case, quinoa.

Ingredients:

  • about 2 lbs. of thinly sliced beef
  • 2 red onions, sliced
  • 1 Tbsp chopped garlic
  • 1 Tbsp onion powder
  • 1 Tbsp garlic powder
  • 2 Tbsp worcestershire sauce
  • 1 1/2 tsp course pepper
  • 1/3 cup calamansi or lemon juice
  • 1 – 1 1/2 cup liquid aminos (or soy sauce)
  • 2 Tbsp olive oil

Instructions:

  1. Oil the skillet or pan
  2. Add chopped garlic and cook until lightly golden or fragrant
  3. Add beef & pepper
  4. Once starting to sizzle pour the worcestershire sauce
  5. Combine calamansi or lemon juice and liquid aminos, adjust it to your taste
  6. Add garlic & onion powder
  7. Simmer until beef is tender
  8. Add the onions & let it simmer until it cooks
  9. Serve over steamed rice
  10. Enjoy
