Beef Stewp (beef nilaga) Recipe

I have this corn that I want to cook other than grilling it so I decided to make beef nilaga (filipino dish) or in english, Beef stewp (stew + soup)hahaha .

One of my favorite dishes when it’s cold and wanting to eat lots of veggies.

 

 

Ingredients:

  • 2 lbs. cubed (an inch to inch and a half) beef (any cut of meat you prefer)
  • 3 russet potatoes cubed
  • 3 carrots cubed (same size as the potatoes)
  • 3 corns & each cut into 3s (about an inch to inch and a half)
  • half a head of large cabbage or whole small cabbage cut into quarters
  • roughly chopped flat leaf kale or bokchoy
  • handful of green beans
  • 1 medium-sized onion, quartered
  • 4 smashed garlic cloves
  • 1 Tbsp salt
  • 1 Tbsp pepper
  • 1 Tbsp black peppercorn
  • 1 Tbsp onion powder
  • 1 Tbsp garlic powder
  • 2-3 Tbsp beef base
  • 1 Tbsp of olive oil
  • 6-8 cups of water

Instructions:

  1. Heat up olive oil in a pot then add the beef
  2. Season beef with salt and pepper, cover for 3 minutes
  3. Add onion, garlic, onion powder, garlic powder & 3 cups of water then cover until the meat is almost tender
  4. Add beef base & 4-5 cups of water then let it boil and adjust seasoning to your taste
  5. Add peppercorns & potatoes then cover for 8-10 minutes
  6. Add carrots then cover for 5 minutes
  7. Add corn & green beans then cover for 3 minutes
  8. Add cabbage then cover for 3 minutes
  9. Add the kale and cover for 3 minutes then turn the stove off
  10. Serve it with rice or eat it by itself
  11. Enjoy
